MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Senior Certificate Current registration (2023) with SANC as a Professional Nurse Highest educational certificate. 
  • Diploma in General Nursing/ Psychiatry/ Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

GRADE 1: R 268 427.00 – R 311 361.00 Per Annum 

No experience required after registration with SANC as Professional Nurse 

GRADE 2: R 330 324.00 – R 379 356.00 Per Annum 

Minimum of 10 years’ appropriate /recognize experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in general nursing Proof of current and previous working experience endorsed by Human Resource department (certificate of service) 

GRADE 3: R 400 644.00 – R 507 540.00 Per Annum 

Minimum of 20 years’ appropriate /recognize experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in general nursing Proof of current and previous working experience endorsed by Human Resource department (certificate of service) 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 

  • Good interpersonal, communication, problem solving and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to make independent decision, problem solving and conflict resolution. 
  • An understanding of the challenges facing the management of mentally ill patients 
  • Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes and other relevant legal framework (mental health care act). 
  • Organizational, decision making, problem solving abilities within the limits of the Public Sector, basic computer skills. 
  • Personal attributes: responsiveness, professionalism, supportive, assertive and must be a team player. 
  • Formulating patient care related policies. 
  • Sound knowledge of the Provincial Health nursing act, Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1995. 

KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS 

  • Provide quality, comprehensive psychiatric patient care by promoting preventive, curable and rehabilitating service for mentally ill patients. 
  • Ensure compliance with health standards and maintain clinical competence. 
  • Observe and assess patients’ needs and establish causes and ways of solving them. 
  • -Co-ordinate the delivery of psychiatric services and maintain client satisfaction. 
  • Work as part of the psychiatric multi-disciplinary team, participate in the management of mentally ill patients and attend to doctors. 
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments within the hospital as well as the referring clinics. -Assist with overall management and necessary support for effective functioning including report writing and statistics. 
  • Supervision of patients and provision of basic patient needs, provision of a safe and therapeutically environment in the unit. 
  • Ensure clinical intervention to clients including administrating of prescribed medication and on-going observation of patients. 
  •  Relieve the Unit Manager in her absence and provide report in her absence. 
  • Ensure self-development and motivate human resource development of co-workers 
  • Provide nursing care that leads to improve service delivery 
  • Train and supervise junior staff and student nurses 
  • Ensure the unit complies with infection prevention and control as well as occupational health policies 
  • Strengthen ethics and professionalism 
  • Participate in the staff development using EPMDS system and other work related programs and training 
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery is available and functional at all times -Attend tom meeting, workshops and training programs as assigned by the supervisor 
  • Do meaningful rounds and monitor client’s satisfaction by communication with patients and relatives.
